Conditions this week have been unseasonably cold but the sun has stayed shining and will continue to do so into early next week.

More sun due in the early part of this week, with really cold temperatures on Wednesday with snow showers overnight.

It's been a really warm week here in Chamonix with spring skiing conditions and patches of brown earth showing up in a lot more places.

The weather is due to change from warm and sunny to a little cloudy with rain / snow over the weekend.

We've had a couple of good dumps of snow this week which has drastically improved the skiing in the Chamonix Valley.

Kirsteen's been up at Brevent today & a new drag lift has opened up in the beginner area.

It's been sunny but cold this week, but this means that the snow has kept in good condition.

Serious amounts of snow has fallen in the Chamonix Valley this week, with around 1 metre at Brevent and Flegere with even more at Grands Montets.

After a blustery, whiteout weekend it looks like we're going to have a few breaks in the weather this week.

It's been a great week for powder in Chamonix, but high winds and high avalanche risk has kept a lot of the higher pistes and ski lifts closed.

We've had around 15cm new snow at the beginning of this week turning sunny after that, and there's more snow due this week.

We've had a little bit more snow this weekend, and Sunday was an absolute scorcher!

It's been an amazingly sunny day today in Chamonix, and with more fresh snow overnight the ski area has had another good top up.

We've had two good dumps of snow to end the week on here in Chamonix and conditions are looking much better on the hill. More snow is also due on Sunday.

A warm end to the week last week meant some tricky conditions on the mountain, but the good news is there's more snow headed our way (and tonnes of it) this week!

After a beautiful weekend of clear skies and perfect powder we have had a return to winter here in Chamonix with clouds, snowfall and cold temperatures.

Well August has finally come to end here in Chamonix and all the big events of the summer are over. There is still plenty to do in the Mont Blanc region though and in many ways September is better than August as it's much quieter.

As the weather cleared up this week I took advantage of the sunshine and went hiking to Lac Blanc, Lac Noir and Lac Cornu. You can reach all of these spots from the Flegere cable car and the walks are well worth the effort with stunning views all along...

It's going to be a cold week here in Chamonix, and we've seen the return of the sun at last!

Although it was raining in heavily in town all day yesterday, there's been a lot more fresh snow at altitude in the valley.

Conditions are great with blue skies and good snow on-piste. But warnings are still to be careful off-piste and on higher slopes. Hiring a mountain guide is advisable if you are considering exploring further afield.

Take a look at some historical footage of the Aiguille du Midi from Compagnie du Mont Blanc. It's 12 minutes long but well worth a look back in time at some of the construction work, the old cable car cabins and fashions of the day!

There's a good base of around 100cm of snow up at Grands Montets and around 30cm at Flegere, plenty to keep some of both ski areas open every day from now on.

The sun might be making a bit of a return over the next few days as the snow clouds start to move on.

Good news with more snow on the way this weekend - around 14cm at 2000m on Saturday and snow to the valley floor on Sunday. 

Kirsteen's been enjoying the family entertainment up at Flegere this Christmas weekend.

More snow to come, around 46cm, and it will remain cold for the rest of this week. But the queues are gone and the pistes are clear!

Sadly there was no Freeride World Tour in Chamonix this year, due to lack of snow and poor conditions. 

The countdown is on for this year's Freeride World Tour, which brings the best and most talented freeride skiers and snowboarders to Chamonix each year.

The Chamonix leg of the Freeride World Tour is over for another year and it was packed with thrills and spills throughout.

We had a maximum of around 30cm at the top of Grands Montets this weekend, but with all the sunshine conditions are still very spring like. 

It's been a warm weekend, but thankfully some fresh snow has arrived to top up the higher pistes. 

There has been some snow at altitude this week up at Grands Montets, with around 20cm arriving in the last few days. The warmer weather and foehn winds have seen off a fair amount of it already though.

We've had a little more fresh snow in the last few days, but nothing to constitute a major dump, however some snow is better than no snow at all!

Conditions up at Grands Montets are better than some of the other parts of the ski area thanks to its higher elevation and north facing aspect which holds the snow better.

This via ferrata route is split into two sections which you reach on foot in around 20 minutes from the top of the Flégère cable car.

The weather has been incredibly varied this week in Chamonix.

We've had around 60 centimetres of fresh snow in the last week or so, giving the ski areas that remain open a nice top up. 

We may be getting a little more snow on Friday this week, but until then it's sunshine and clear skies.
