Pierre a Berard Refuge (1924m), Massif du Mont-Blanc

A refuge well known for housing those who wish to climb Mont Buet

A beautiful walk up the Berard Valley with plenty of blueberry picking, marmot spotting and ibex roaming close by, leads you to the Refuge de la Pierre a Berard.

The refuge is open from mid-June through to mid/late September and is a popular stop for those wishing to climb Mont Buet and explore more of the area of the Buet foothills on the right or the Aiguilles Rouges on the left.

Sleeping 40 people in two large dormitories this refuge is a beautiful spot and easily accessible by foot from Le Buet village, Vallorcine. Camping is permitted in the vicinity of the refuge but only by prior arrangement with the guardian.

The refuge offers half-board, B&B or bed only accommodation. There is no picnic room but you are welcome to eat your own food on the terrace or in the dining room (dependant on space) as long as each person buys a drink of some sort. The refuge also serves a lunch and snack menu throughout the day, which is very popular with passing hikers.

There are toilets but no showers, an outside tap is available for you to splash yourself under if you're brave enough!

This is one of the few huts that accepts card payments, please enquire directly for this season's prices and opening/closing dates.

Worth knowing

This hut gets completely snowed in during the winter, so there is no chance of it being open outside the summer period!
