Les Grands Montets, Chamonix - Argentière
CLOSED SUMMER 2025 Head up to get great views of the Argentière glacier
The Plan Joran télécabine takes you up to Grands Montets at an altitude of 1,972 metres.
From here you can walk over towards the Refuge de Lognan where you'll see the impressive Argentière glacier creeping down the mountain.
You can take mountain bikes on the cable car in summer giving you access to a couple of single tracks trails down through the trees and back to the valley floor.
There are lots of hiking trails accessible from this area too.

During the summer you might find hundreds of trail runners passing through the area as part of the UTMB week, which sees races of varying lengths and difficulty set off around the trails of the Chamonix valley.

Aiguille Rouge Nature Reserve
The Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve was created in 1974 and is a bio-diverse area of around 16,000 hectares with spectacular views of the Col des Montets. There is an information centre where you can find out about the animals and plants of the area and buy a drink or snack.
Directions
Grands Montets can be accessed easily by bus or train and there's also a huge car park at the bottom lift station which is never full over the summer.
How to get passes
You can buy tickets directly from the lift station or buy a Mont Blanc Multi-pass in advance on line.
