Loriaz Refuge (2020m), Massif du Mont-Blanc

Refuge & buvette in a beautiful location surrounded by hiking trails

featured in Mountain huts Updated

Facing the beautiful Le Tour glacier, Refuge de Loriaz sits at 2020 metres with exceptional views of Mont Blanc.

Open in summer and winter for either a tasty Savoyard style meal or accommodation for the night while you are hiking or ski touring, this really is a great spot to take a break.

In winter the dormitory sleeps up to 30 people in 2 rooms and in summer this increases to 50 with the use of a third room. Bedding, linen and pillows are provided but you are obliged to bring your own sleeping bag liner (they can also be rented from the refuge, depending on availability).

There are toilets and washrooms but no shower facilities and only cold water. Be sure to bring plenty of warm clothing in the winter, as the temperature in the dormitories is often only 16-18°c.

The refuge offers half-board, B&B or bed only accommodation; they do not accept card payments, so make sure that you have sufficient cash.

Please contact the refuge directly for this season's prices and opening/closing dates.

Worth knowing

From the refuge you can hike to Col de la Terrasse, Cheval Blanc, Lac du vieil Emosson, the dinosaur footprints, and to Le Buet (the highest summit in the Aiguilles Rouges at 3096m).

The refuge is also on the routes of the Tour du Mont-Blanc, Tour des Aiguilles Rouges, Tour du Mont Ruan, and Tour de la vallée du Trient.
