Panoramic gondola - Aiguille du Midi

A gondola ride across the glaciers high above the Chamonix valley

featured in Lift Pass Offices & Lift Stations Updated

The Panoramic Mont Blanc gondola operates during the summer months, connecting the Aiguille du Midi with the Skyway Monte Bianco lift at Helbronner, on the Italian side of Mont Blanc.

This amazing 5km gondola journey passes over the Géant glacier, giving you spectacular views over ice falls, crevasses and the Mont Blanc massif.

A one-way trip takes 30 minutes in a four-person gondola. Its operation is very weather dependant – if the wind is too strong, or if there is poor visibility, the gondola will close.

Once at the far side you can connect on foot to the new Skyway Monte-Bianco (Helbronner) cable car.

Directions

Getting to the base station of the Aiguille du Midi cable car is easy on foot from Chamonix centre, or by bus is you get off at the Chamonix Sud terminus. There is also a train stop at the opposite end of the road to the lift station. You need to get to the top of the Aiguille du Midi and then connect onto the Panoramic gondola from here.

When to come

This gondola is only open during the summer months and only during periods of good weather. Take a look at all the summer lift opening dates and timetables.

How to get passes

This lift is not included in the Mont Blanc multi-pass so you need to buy tickets separately.

During peak season it can be best to book in advance which you can do at any of the lift pass offices.

To find out more information or to purchase your ticket in advance for the Aiguille du Midi lift plus the Panoramic then it is best to speak to the operators at the Aiguille du Midi lift pass office at the bottom of the lift.

More inspiration...

Lots of people head up the Aiguille du Midi and the Panoramic gondola purely for the views over the glaciers, although it is also a hugely popular start point for many mountaineering and skiing routes.

Walking onto the glaciers from Helbronner is not advised unless you have the proper equipment and are preferably with a high-mountain guide.
