Bighorn Bistro Bar, Chamonix - Centre

Craft ales, quirky cocktails, American cuisine & home cooked baked goods

Featured in: | Updated

This welcoming family-run establishment opened in June 2015 and serves up an enticing selection of drinks and "A New Kind of American Food".

Bighorn Bistro is a family establishment through and through, run passionately by Susan, her children, family and friends. The front-of-house team, Hannah and Rhys, pride themselves on going the extra mile to provide a friendly and relaxed experience for their customers. Behind the scenes, Susan and Morgan are responsible for the  operations and unique concept of Bighorn - an American-influenced restaurant, bar and café/bakery.

Inspired by a love of the Wyoming mountains mixed with the need for adventure that only Chamonix can offer, Bighorn bistro offers a unique experience for their visitors. The cosy and rustic mountain-style interior offers a warm welcome for mountaineers and skiers seeking sustenance, or casual passers-by.

Located in the social heart of the buzzing Chamonix Sud area, Bighorn is an equally great spot for a sunny afternoon drink in the summer or a cosy and warming apres-ski session in the winter.

At the bar you can choose from a large selection of craft beers on tap or by the bottle, from local breweries such as Big Mountain, Ibex, Two Hats and Sapaudia, to some of the best craft beers in the world. For the connoisseurs out there, this includes a selection from Wild beer co., Pophin, Amundsen, Northern monk, Brewdog and many more. If you can't make up your mind they sell Beer Flights (little boards of sample beers to taste) as well as Gluten Free Beer! Don't worry if you're just after a standard pint, Bighorn have you covered on that too with their Pilsner (Warsteiner) being one of the cheapest beers in Chamonix. You can find out what beers they have on draught at any point by visiting their profile on the Untappd app.

If you fancy something a little more unique, Rhys is the mastermind behind their selection of unique, hand-crafted, homemade cocktails which are served by their trained mixologists. Try one of their in house cocktails or ask them to make you something special, with access to one of Chamonix’s largest gin selections you may find yourself indulging in some rare tipples from all over the world.

And if all of Chamonix's mountain activities have given you an appetite, then grab a seat in the restaurant and enjoy their quality home-made style American fusion cuisine.

From June 4th 2020, the cafe, bar and restaurant will be open from Thursday to Friday from 16:00 to 22:00 and on Sundays for brunch from 10:00 to 15:00 and then serving dinner from 15:00 to 22:00. Safety and hygiene guidelines will be strictly observed.

The Neighbourhood

The Restaurant

On their menu you'll find healthy gourmet brunches, mouth-watering appetisers, soups, salads and handcrafted sandwiches, as well as tasty burgers and fries. Uniquely, there is also a bakery element, so if you fancy treating yourself to a coffee and something sweet you'll find a great alternative to the usual French pastries here, with a selection that changes daily.

  • "Found this bistro on last day of 5 day trip. What a pity. The reccomended bloody Mary was amazing to begin with. The pasta pesto with chicken was sensational. My girlfriend had the Seattle salmon sandwich with egg and chips, she loved it. Could not wait to taste coffee before writing this. Waiter was so cool and relaxed. Read this then type it into Google maps and get there." - Trip Advisor
  • "A great find for a quick bite. Extremely friendly and helpfull staff, great wifi and above all really delicious (fast) food. The pulled pork and homemade nachos are highly recommended. The fries are homemade and truly delicious. They serve different sorts of beer too. Given the location you get real value for money!" - Trip Advisor
  • "We found this bistro via a recommendation from our transportation company and what a great place. It is the only restaurant in Chamonix to serve really good beer. We found 5 craft beers on tap when we visited. But don't come for just that, the food is great. The Bighorn is American owned and has some American favorites but other good choices too. For vegetarians there are good choices, I really liked the sweet potato/quinoa burger. The owner does all the baking including the burger rolls." - Trip Advisor
  • "We were excited to try an American restaurant in Chamonix, not only to try a new place but to see if we could have a little taste of home. The restaurant is perfectly decorated, the "staff" (owners) bring the great customer service Americans are known for, and the food is fantastic as well (everything that can be home made, is homemade)" - Trip Advisor
  • "We popped in for a coffee. This is a lovely place and the staff were really friendly. The cookies looked amazing and we are really keen to come back for breakfast soon." - Trip Advisor
