This shelter is easily accessible via the Montenvers train link. Perched on a ledge along the Mer de Glace route, it has some spectacular views of the Mont Blanc Massif which can be enjoyed from their terrace.

During the summer season, which runs from mid-June to mid-September, the refuge has capacity for 68 people in dormitories of approximately 10 people. Booking should be made in advance.

In the winter, there is space for 12 people. Mattresses and bed covers are supplied but the hut is unstaffed and there is no gas or heating.

Accommodation can be booked half-board, B&B or bed only; there is also a lunch and snack menu on offer during the day.

Please enquire directly with the refuge for this season's prices and its opening and closing dates.

Directions

Take the train from the Montenvers station in central Chamonix to the Mer de Glace. From here the route will take you about three hours.

Take the trails or ladders down to the glacier. Walk along the glacier and after a curve to the left then the right, over on the far left bank you should see a yellow arrow and ladders up to the mountain path that will lead you to the shelter.

As the crevasses move frequently, it is best to confirm your path with the hut guardian when booking.
