Situated in La Folie Douce Hotel, it's the perfect place for traditional alpine cuisine with a modern twist.

Alpine cows have a lot to offer and the chef knows this! Enjoy traditional alpine food with a modern twist.

You can still enjoy traditional food there, like fondue and raclette, but prepare yourself for their innovative twist on the traditional Savoyard experience.

2. Le Monchu Restaurant

Chamonix

Located to the right of the Casino in the centre of Chamonix (that's the actual gambling casino as oppose to the supermarket).

All the typical Savoyard fare is on offer, including tartiflette, pierrade de boeuf (where you cook your own meat on a hot stone) and fondue. The portions are ample and the price is pretty reasonable too.

The interior is very warm and rustic, with an authentic Alpine feel to it.

3. Le Sérac Restaurant

Situated in Chamonix's centre, this restaurant serves traditional cuisine as well as classic French favourites.

Their three-course Tradition menu is a good way to try some of the local specialities, including croute, tartiflette or fondue. They also have an à la carte menu featuring typical French and regional recipes such as onion soup, snails, foie gras, roast duck, entrecôte, raclette and pierrade (hot stone). If you fancy something lighter, then they also serve a selection of pasta dishes, salads and a daily special.

Open every day (except Tuesday and Wednesday) from 11:45 to 14:00 and from 18:45 to 21:30.

At lunchtime you’ll find that most restaurants offer a well-priced plat du jour or dish of the day. It usually includes locally sourced meat with potatoes and either a salad or seasonal vegetables.

If you’re travelling with children you’ll be pleased to know that most restaurants in Chamonix have children’s menus. Expect classics such as omelette, chicken, burgers with chips or pasta like spaghetti bolognese. If there isn’t a set menu for little ones, many places are happy to prepare smaller portions from the main menu. For something more regional try fondue or raclette, which are fun to share. Children love dipping bread into melted cheese or grilling meat on a hot stone.

Stroll down Avenue Aiguille du Midi and you’ll come across a line of friendly, informal restaurants serving omelettes, crêpes, salads, pasta and local specialities.

If you prefer a modern, cosmopolitan vibe with funky décor and international flavours you’ll also find plenty of places to choose from. Remember that many of these restaurants offer excellent value at lunchtime when the menu is often much cheaper than in the evening. So if you’re not heading up into the mountains, make time to pop into town and see what the plat du jour is.
