Easy to find at the start of the main pedestrian street in Chamonix with a great view of Mont Blanc, this restaurant serves traditional Indian cuisine to eat in or take away.

Their menu includes classic Indian favourites such as bhajees, pakoras and samosas, thali platters, biryanis, naan breads and a great selection of tandoori dishes cooked in a traditional Tandoor oven. They propose a number of meat and fish speciality curries as well as a wide variety of vegetarian options.

Open daily 12:00 to 15:00 19:00 to 22:30. All items on the menu can also be ordered to take away.

2. Le Munchie (Munchies) Restaurant

A really popular restaurant on the Route du Moulin in the centre of Chamonix, they guarantee a dinner that will exceed your expectations.

Try their specialities, duck teriyaki or steak frites, served with their own bearnaise sauce. They also offer an extensive sushi menu.

It's really popular with locals and holiday makers alike, so we strongly recommend you make a reservation.

Open daily from 19:00 to 02:00 in the winter and summer seasons.

3. Le Shack Restaurant and Bar

Mumma restaurant is next door, and the restaurant offers al fresco Asian-fusion snacking and delicious cocktails.

Whether it's for a beer or cocktail in the sunny beer garden you're after, or an easy and laid-back dinner of Asian-inspired tapas snacking food, everyone will enjoy the buzzing and lively atmosphere at the Shack. The limited menu is carefully selected and still manages to offer something to please everyone. Vegetarian options available.

Live music in the form of local solo artists, bands and DJs play regularly throughout the warm summer evenings, making it hard to walk past without stopping in to listen and have a tipple or a bite.

Seating is on shared benches and lounge chairs on the street-side terrace, offering a communal, bohemian feel.

L'Hydromel Bar & Restaurant, Chamonix - Centre

4. L'Hydromel Bar and Restaurant

If you're passing through town you'll be enticed by this lively bar and restaurant, with trendy decor and a buzzing spacious terrace.

On the menu there's a range of international dishes, including a selection of generous burgers, Japanese glazed pork, miso soup, and woks. They also have a tapas and smaller plates menu with foccacia, cheese and charcuterie platters, croque-monsieur and Flammekuechen flatbreads - perfect for sharing, or light bites. Children's options are available. 

At the bar you'll find a good range of beers, wines and softs and hot drinks. But what they're best known for is their excellent cocktails, which are best enjoyed in the lively bar area. Peruse the extensive menu for the tipple that takes your fancy. Enjoy the great music from regular artists and DJ performances.

Open every day in the winter and summer season. Non-stop food service from 08:00 to 23:00, and for drinks through until 01:00.

Mumma Restaurant, Chamonix

5. Mumma Restaurant

A refreshing change from the traditional Savoyarde restaurants in Chamonix, Mumma has quickly become a firm favourite amongst the local residents and visitors alike.

Mumma is designed with sharing in mind; the space, the menu, the saké. With everyone in the same room, it's bustling, a little noisy, and full of life.

Born in Stockholm, cooking since he was five years old, resident and chef in Chamonix since 2005, chef David serves a tasty cuisine in a non-pretentious bistrot atmosphere.

The restaurant is small and very popular, so reservation recommended, but some tables are held back for walk-ins, so you can still try your luck if they're fully booked.

Open summer and winter for dinner from 18:30 to 23:00. Closed during interseason periods.

Gandhi Restaurant, Les Houches exterior

6. Gandhi Restaurant

This restaurant serves tasty, good value Indian cuisine for lunch, dinner and to takeaway.

The menu includes all the staple Indian favourites such as pakora, bhajis and samosas, as well as biryani and tandoori dishes, curries, naans, popadoms and all the accompaniments. Naturally, the menu caters very well to vegetarian and vegan diners.

They're open for dinner every evening (except for Sundays) from 19:00 to 23:00, and for lunch Thursday and Friday from 12:00 to 14:00.

You can find them in Les Houches in a little arcade of businesses just opposite the Elan petrol station.

Chez Yang Restaurant, Chamonix - Centre style of cuisine

7. Chez Yang Restaurant

As well as offering your usual favourite dishes on the a la carte menu, they also have various set menus that take you on a gastronomic tour of the continent.

Sometimes you can have too much cheese and ham when you're in the mountains. Well you don't have to look any further to find an explosion of Asian flavours and Chinese specialities.

The "Menu Dégustation" is a great choice if you're new to Chinese food, showcasing some of the specialities of the house, whilst the "Menu Asia" has dishes from China, Thailand and Indonesia all in the one sitting.

With seating for up to 200 people, this restaurant is a great place for larger groups as the menu caters to a variety of tastes and they have also have specific set menus on a Chinese, Japanese or Thai theme.

The service is friendly and efficient and there is conservatory seating outback with spectacular views of the mountains and a beautiful south-facing terrace for the warmer months.

Open every day for lunch and dinner from 11:00 to 15:00 and 18:00 to 22:00.

Chambre Neuf Restaurant, Chamonix - Centre main

8. Chambre Neuf Restaurant

Brasserie Chambre Neuf offers you classic international cooking in a friendly mountain atmosphere. Part of the Hotel Gustavia, the restaurant delivers a high-quality lunch and dinner menu in a cosy setting.

This bar-restaurant is a favourite meeting point for many locals. In the summer, the shady terrace is tempting for a long relaxing lunch and in winter the interior is warm and welcoming.

The very popular lunch menu features international dishes however, it's the famous Chambre Burger that is the most popular dish on the menu. There is also a freshly prepared daily special, great value when ordered as the set menu "du jour", usually comprising two or three dishes to choose from as well as a delicious soup, salad and bread buffet. Lunch is served from midday until 15:00.

Hotel Gustavia also take evening bookings between 19:00 and 22:00 offering a great value three-course meal at around €25 (excluding drinks). Visit their website to see their latest menu.

And, of course, the famous Chambre Neuf bar is open throughout the day for drinks and snacks - everything from coffee to cocktails!

Satsuki Japanese Restaurant, Chamonix Centre style of cuisine

9. Satsuki Japanese Restaurant

Situated just two minutes walk out of the centre of town at the top of the Rue Joseph Vallot (main street).

Offering a small dining room, a recently built wooden-decked terrace and takeaway service, this is a great choice if you want to escape from the traditional Savoyard fare. Their set menus, ranging from 26€ to 38€ are great value.

Specialities, apart from a wide variety of sushi and sashimi, include miso soup, tempura, yakitori, udon and soba noodles and mochi for dessert.

Open every day from 12:00 to 14:30 and from 18:30 to 22:00.

Anybody who is serious about their skiing (or après-skiing!) has partied in the bar after tackling the world famous Grands Montets. During the summer this is a great place to head for lunch which can be taken on the outdoor terrace

All the food is home-made and freshly produced - which you can tell on sampling. For starters, there are pub classics such as nachos with all the necessary toppings, soups and spring rolls.

For main course, you will not go wrong with the famous Office Burger, or their pies. Desserts include bannoffee pie and white and dark chocolate mousse.

Open Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 01:00, and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 01:00.

Tanpopo Restaurant, Chamonix Main Town style of cuisine

11. Tanpopo Restaurant

Small restaurant located in the centre of Chamonix.

Their concise menu includes different varieties of ramen, curry rice and typical Japanese appetisers such as gyoza or seaweed salad, as well as desserts like mochi.

Compact and bijou inside with only a handful of tables and a few more outside on the pavement. Their menu is also available to take away.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 to 14:00 and from 18:30 to 21:00.
