This weekend is the official opening of Chamonix's ski area, however since we've not had any fresh snow since mid November only certain parts of the ski area will open.

Thankfully we've had a cold few weeks and the snow canons have been in full flow, topping up the pistes and allowing more of the ski area to open from this weekend.

Over the past few weeks we've been able to ski at Grands Montets and last weekend part of Flegere ski area opened. From tomorrow part of Brevent will also open, part of Les Houches and part of Megeve. Le Tour and Vallorcine will remain closed for the time being.

Here's what's opening and where:

Grands Montets

  • Lifts - Lognan & GM cable cars, Plan Joran gondola, Bochard, Herse, Marmottes and Tabe
  • Pistes - Pylones, Bochard, Marmottons, Coqs and Combes

Brevent

  • Lifts - Planpraz gondola, Brevent cable car & Funi 2000 funicular
  • Pistes - Charles Bozon, beginner area

  • Pistes - Trappe, Libellule, Pylones and Variantes
  • Activities - Via Corda Evettes, Snow Tubing, Zip wire, children's snow village and snow shoeing

More good news is that the Aiguille du Midi and Montenvers train to the Mer de Glace re-open this weekend after a period of closure for annual maintenance on the former, and renovation for the latter.

The Tramway du Mont Blanc is also running on weekends and school holidays from tomorrow until the end of March 2017. Find timetables and prices here.
