Recent snowfall and low temperatures means conditions were perfect to have a go at one of Chamonix's more public lines. The Poubelle couloir often attracts the attention of skiers and once in a while someone drops in.
After a warm-up lap on amazing pistes, we got the ropes out and went for it. Aware that the previous day's sunshine could have affected the snow, we proceed with caution. A beautiful top section led to sun affected bottom half, requiring some technical skiing.
Avalanche risk was 3/5, but with today's change in the weather this will have changed so make sure you check the latest report. The forecast for the next 5 days is a mix of rain and snow, with freezing level up to 2000m.
