With less than a month left before the ski lifts reopen and, whilst thoughts naturally turn to the snowy slopes, the start of the season also brings a wealth of “extra-curricular” entertainments to keep you feeling good during your stay.

The Chamonix Valley has got so much to give this year, so here is our brief introduction to what’s going on this winter.

Opening day - December 8th

Lifts whir into action on Saturday, December 8th, although there might be some partial early season openings in Les Grands Montets and Les Houches during weekends before that. To celebrate the grand opening there'll be several events taking place around the valley including a cross-country ski festival, the Nordic Monster Test, and a ski tour competition in Le Tour, the Mont Blanc Ski Challenge.

Christmas & New Year

The festive holidays are celebrated across the valley with music concerts, Christmas markets, torchlit descents and, of course, visits from Santa Claus to the valley's village, who will come accompanied by his elves. For the new year, the restaurants and bars in the Chamonix Valley will be organising special dinners and parties that will last until the wee hours of January 1st 2019.

Chamonix Unlimited Festival - April 2nd-7th

Chamonix's largest electronic music festival takes place this year from April 2nd to 7th 2019. Outdoor stages will be set up high in the mountains with parties at the summits of Brévent's Planpraz, the Aiguille du Midi, Plan Joran and the Refuge de Lognan in Les Grands Montets and the Montenvers - Mer de Glace. Celebrations will continue in some of the valley's best bars, including the brand new La Folie Douce, Le Vert and Les Caves. This year's lineup features legend Jeff Mills, as well as Adriatique, Mind Against or Stephan Bodzin.

Shops all around Chamonix offer their end of season deals on the streets of the town during the weekend of April 6th and 7th. This is a great chance to grab yourself a bargain with ski and snowboard gear showing discounts of up to 50%. There will also be live entertainment, street parades and activities for children.

Musilac Mont Blanc - April 26th-28th

What's on in Chamonix winter 2018/19

The biggest event of the season takes place on April 26th to 28th. Musilac Mont-Blanc celebrated its first edition last year and it was so successful that this season it'll be even bigger and better. The most beautiful stage in the world, with the breathtaking Mont-Blanc mountain range as its background, will be set up on the grounds of the Bois du Bouchet once more to receive some of the best national and international acts. Last year, we saw Texas, Rag'n'Bone Man, Ben Harper and Beth Ditto among many others. Rock & Ride in Chamonix this spring!
