Old Lorries to be Banned from The Mont Blanc Tunnel
Decision based on environmental concerns
From the 1st of November, heavy vehicles that fall into the Euro 2 category will be prohibited from entering the Mont Blanc Tunnel. This means that any truck or lorry that was put into circulation before the 1st of October 2001 and does not meet the Euro 3 emission standards will now have to find a different route when travelling from France to Italy.
The decision is part of a wider environmental initative designed to protect the air quality and overall natural habitat in Chamonix and the Arve Valley. Momentum behind the campaign is gathering with an epidemiological study into pollution levels planned and an environmental demonstration scheduled for later this month.
