2018 Mont Blanc Marathon results

With a heatwave sweeping most of western Europe, it was a hot weekend for competitors in all races. With a lot of snow remaining at altitude after an extraordinary winter, this year's event was also a slippery affair. Heating up the competition, a late announcement from Spanish trail runner and alpinist Kilian Jornet confirmed that he would be participating in the 42km category, just three months after fracturing his fibula.

90km du Mont Blanc
The 90km race took off on Friday June 23rd from the Place du Triangle de l'amitié in Chamonix town centre, with France native Sylvain Court first to complete the course in 11:23:48. Court was soon followed by fellow Frenchman Maxime Cazajous with a time of 11:27:30, and Great Britain's Donald Campbell in 11:30:00 flat. First female was Mimmi Kotka of Sweden in a time of 12:09:45, followed by Audrey Tanguy and Marion Delespierre in times of 13:14:01 and 14:20:07 respectively.

42km Marathon du Mont Blanc
In the marathon event, favourite Kilian Jornet took the top spot with a time of 03:54:54, with the Swiss Marc Lauenstein in second at 03:58:15, and Norway's Stian Angermund-Vik in third with 04:00:07. Top spot in the female category went to Ruth Croft, all the way from New Zealand, in a time of 04:37:30, with second for Ida Nilsson of Sweden with 04:39:37, and Spain's Eli Gordón taking third in 04:41:01.

23km du Mont Blanc
It was a mostly French affair in the half-marathon event, with Robin Juillaguet, Robin Juillaguet, and Buissart Romain taking first, second, and third respectively. The female top spots went to France's Stephanie Roy, German Sophie Ewald, and yet another French podium position with Juliette Belondrade in third.

Other notable victories went to the Compressport Belgian Trail Team- LBFA Trail Elites in the 17km night-time Duo Etoile, and Jacob Adkin and Hillaty Gerardi respectively in the men and women's Vertical K.
