The Freeride World Tour kicks off this weekend and for the first time ever a British rider has been asked to take part in the tour.

James Stentiford, 39, has been snowboarding in Chamonix for the past 18 winters and joined the Freeride World Tour last year as a wild card for the Chamonix leg.

"I asked for another wild card entry for this year and they said I could come on the whole tour. I thought, why not? I'm 39 now and I thought if I don't do it now, I never will." said James.
"I still love riding. I don't think I'll ever stop loving it. In the summer I see guys in the water surfing who are in their sixties, they're still frothing for it, you know. I still get that feeling."

James joins the world's greatest freeriders both male and female, skiers and snowboarders in the ultimate test to crown the best back country riders on the planet. The snowboard field that he is part of this year is stronger than ever and includes previous world champions, Olympics finalists and legends of the sport.

"I think the field, in snowboarding, is probably the strongest we've seen in the last couple of years. Xavier (de la Rue) is definitely the man to beat, but hopefully us oldies can challenge him and give him a run for his money."

The competition is now taking place in Courmeyeur, Italy, as the organisers decided the conditions in Chamonix were not suitable.

We'll be cheering James on and we'll bring you the results as soon as we have them.
