Chamonix feels deep into winter now, with the valley properly framed by snow and the high peaks looking sharp and well loaded. Living here, it is the kind of week where conditions feel settled rather than changing by the hour, and the season has found a good balance after earlier snowfall. The atmosphere in town is busy but relaxed, with reliable skiing across the different sectors and a sense that winter is doing what it should.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths are sitting at around 300 to 320cm at high altitude, with approximately 110 to 130cm in the valley. There has been little fresh snowfall over the past several days, but the existing base remains strong thanks to consistently cold temperatures. On the mountain, daytime temperatures have generally ranged between -10 and -4 degrees Celsius, with the freezing level often hovering below 1200m. Winds have been light to moderate at altitude, occasionally stronger on exposed ridges but not enough to disrupt skiing. Snow conditions are good across most pistes, with firm, well prepared runs in the mornings and slightly softer snow developing where the sun reaches slopes later in the day. Higher terrain and north facing aspects are holding the best quality snow, while lower runs can feel harder early on, particularly after clear overnight conditions.
