The last week has been all about sunshine, clear skies at night and arctic freezing cold conditions! We’ve still been enjoying quieter slopes, but that’s all about to change as this weekend sees the start of the school holidays.
My snow report this week isn’t going to be very long, there is not much snow currently forecast in our part of the Alps for the next 6 days, maybe a few cms on Sunday. Austria seems to be the lucky one getting large amounts of snowfall this week due to the Nordstau effect that I mentioned last week. Looks like parts of the Eastern Swiss Alps will be receiving snowfall too.
The recent snow we’ve had is holding up really well and conditions are generally good. The fact that it has been so cold means that snow cannons can run where needed.
In Chamonix, up until Saturday the weather looks set to remain clear and sunny with temperatures warming up during the day to around +1-3°C. From Saturday we see some clouds rolling in and then Sunday light snow showers are forecast with maybe a little more on Tuesday, although this is harder to predict as still 5 days away. From Sunday the temperatures take a dive again and it will become much colder down to between -7°C to -14°C for the next few days.
