L'M Restaurant Review

Excellent French restaurant in the centre of Chamonix

A crisp sunny day at the very start of winter. With the snow falling all of yesterday, today was definitely a good day to get a lovely warm lunch in one of Chamonix's central restaurants!

Although it is well situated with stunning views the L'M has always struck me as rather touristy, hence, this was actually my first time setting foot inside the door. And I was happily surprised! Not only was the service good but the food was delicious...I might need to miss a meal later to make up for it...

The interior is spacious (although I would imagine it becomes very busy during high season) and had the usual traditional 'Chamonix' style decor of wood and alpine fabrics. But it was pleasant and we were seated straight away and given our menu's to peruse. My companion choose the 'plat du jour' of pork with mustard sauce, but as always I came up against the 'vegetarian option' issue. Not much to choose from so I opted for what I thought might be a fairly standard mushroom ravioli. I was wrong! It was far from standard, and was in fact one of the best ravioli's I have had; with fresh seasonal cepes mushrooms and shavings of parmesan over the creamy sauce, it was rich and tasty and the perfect warm winter food I was looking for.

The pork got glowing reports as well and was ordered with a side of home made french fries rather than the pasta it was supposed to come with. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal which is a bit of a change from the norm here in Chamonix so added to a good all round experience.

After the large main courses we opted to share a dessert with our coffee, although there was probably no need for any dessert! We went for the lemon meringue pie which has a deliciously 'tart' lemon filling, great with a nice strong coffee.

All in all this was a great meal, and good value for money with all of that costing just €20 each. I will certainly back to enjoy their outdoor terrace at some point and it would be a great venue for a group meal one evening.
