Mountain biking in the Chamonix valley, moving forward...

Imprint
By Ellie Mahoney, Updated

I've not been biking this weekend in Chamonix as I was over checking out the Mondial VTT in Les Deux Alpes, however here's some interesting news from the Compagnie du Mont Blanc regarding what's happening on the trails in Chamonix, and what's currently open. And yes, there will definitely be a new track built from the top lift in Le Tour/Balme area...! Hoorah!

For three years now the Compagnie du Mont Blanc, aware of the ever increasing demand from mountain bikers, have made great efforts and significant improvements on the sites in the valley to offer mountain bikers more tracks to practice their favourite sport.

The Balme area is particularly suited to this sport, so this year we have focused our efforts on the creation of a new track off the Autannes chairlift. Also worth mentioning is the CHAM'Sports pass which gives unlimited access (one way only) to the lifts at a very affordable price.

Nevertheless there is still a considerable amount of work ahead. All the while we would like to hear your suggestions and comments, based on your experience and skills your contributions will help form the future of mountain biking in the valley.

Here is up to date information on mountain bike trails and areas in the valley:

Balme
3 tracks:

  • Black track : from the top of the Vallorcine gondola down to Vallorcine.
  • Blue track : from the top of the Charamillon gondola back down to Le Tour. (Currently closed due to bad track conditions, a shaper will be called in next week)
  • Green track : a new track from the top of the Autannes chairlift down to Charamillon (opening in August)
  • Bike patrol is on site from June to mid September.

Flégère

2 tracks not currently maintained but with open access:

  • Red track : which descends down to Le Praz.
  • Blue track : from the Index chairlift (currently closed due to snow on the track)
  • Bike patrol will be on site July to August.

Les Houches

  • No specific mountain bike tracks but a number of mountain bike trails are accessible.

Brévent

  • No specific mountain bike tracks but a number of mountain bike trails are accessible.

We hope you enjoy your summer!
