Tragedy and death are a sad reality of living in an extreme sports resort such as Chamonix, but this mornings news saddens me more than most.

The French press are reporting that on Wednesday evening the bodies of two people and their dog were discovered inside their home, which was a van or truck parked in the Grands Montets car park. The most likely cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning from the heating system.

The two were discovered when some friends went to visit them last night. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the two people could not be revived. An investigation has been opened to ascertain the events leading up to these two tragic deaths. The Chamonix mayor, Eric Fournier, was also present last night to offer his support and ensure the witnesses receive the necessary care after suffering such a shock.

Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims, and to the Chamonix community.
