It's been a few years in the making (or renovating more like) but a new art space, the brainchild of local musician André Manoukian, is set to open some time in the next few months.
Back in 2011 we reported that André Manoukian, founder of Chamonix's summer CosmoJazz Festival, was interested in turning the old villa de la Tournette into a space for artists and musicians to use. That dream is now set to become a reality as the project is due for completion in the next couple of months.
The building and grounds surrounding it had been the subject of various bids with the town council who now own the property, and in 2013 André's idea for an art space was successful, and granted permission to go ahead.
After a huge amount of work to the main building and the park surrounding it, the project is almost ready to receive artists. The basement will house a new recording studio and the floors above will be living accommodation for the artists in residence. It looks likely to become both a local and International hub for visiting musicians, and another success in the notch of André Manoukian's belt!
