The mountains have received their first snowfalls of the autumn, leaves are starting to turn and the mornings and evenings have a chill in the air. Winter is just around the corner and you can smell it.

With that awesome fact in mind, I thought I’d look at 3 of the best looking big mountain skis for this winter season. These are all built for the skier who likes to venture off piste and into the backcountry in search of big lines and deep powder.

Black Crows Anima

Black Crows have a strong following and it’s easy to see why. Their skis are well made, they look great and they ride great. The Anima is a big mountain ski with a freestyle edge that makes it a perfect choice for the rider who likes to throw some freestyle into their line. A waist width of 115mm ensures deep snow performance and the early rise in the tip and rocker in the tail means this ski will turn easily in tight spots. Trad camber underfoot adds stability and power in hard snow or in sketchy situations. RRP approx £570

Dynastar Cham 2.0 117

The Cham series from Dynastar is a classic line of skis. They have always had the reputation of being ideal for the hard charging freerider who likes a solid, dependable ski. For winter 2015 / 2016, the Cham series has been redesigned completely with a new construction, shape and rocker profile. The 117 is wide enough underfoot to handle really deep snow along with being solid and versatile over the whole mountain. The new profile has a small amount of tip rocker, camber under foot and a little tail rocker which makes the new Cham 2.0 easy to turn and more playful than previous skis in the Cham line, yet still rock solid and confidence inspiring in serious terrain too. It’s also lighter than previous models so even a little touring isn’t out of the question with this ski. RRP approx £550

Volkl Three

Coming in at a whopping 135mm underfoot, the Three really is a powder quiver ski. Alaskan spines, Hokkaido pow this is a ski for the deepest days. It has a full rocker profile for float and Volkl’s Early Taper sidecut to further enhance the deep snow experience. Early Taper Sidecut gives the Three sidecut measurements of 150 135 140 which will make wind lip slashes and big drifting turns a joy on this ski. RRP approx £475
