Bargain Brunch - a Feast for 15€

For years Chambre Neuf have very successfully followed the formula of not trying to fix something if it doesn't appear to be broken. However, they have more recently decided that you can add shiny new things entirely separately: 'English-style' fish 'n' chips served out the front of après-ski; DJ and theme nights in the bar in the later hours; and this weekend saw the launch of their new Sunday Brunch which will run year-round and - in the words of new Head Chef Stefan - "brings a touch of England, Sweden and France to your plate". In Chamonix of all places - fancy that.

We trotted over at 2.30 (it's served from 11.30 until 3) to see how it was going down. It was a seriously sunny day, and had been snowing the 2 nights beforehand - so pretty much everyone in town had tried to get up the slopes, but nevertheless there were plenty of contented faces chomping away as we walked in.

The brunch is served as a self-service buffet, so we grabbed plates and started at one end - soon realising that we would need some tactics as there was basically too much to fit on a single plate in one go: from left to right you can choose from a breadboard, a giant bowl of beans, hot-plates with eggs, bacon, sausages & tomatoes, chicken wings, a cheeseboard, smoked salmon & smoked prawns (yum), various cold meats, salad, melon, pineapple, and some crispy sugary pastries.

Now, for 15 euros this seems quite a bargain to me - we were joined by some red-nosed friends who had just whizzed down the Vallee Blanche. And if you don't fancy rushing off the slopes early then it's certainly is a very tempting option for those rainy lazy Sundays in interseason.

An added bonus this weekend was a few bonus tunes from No Limits - with a slightly less raucous vibe compared to their usual après-ski fare.

All in all, an excellent addition to Chamonix's lunchtime options - and I'm looking forward to seeing what Stefan, Kenny and the rest of the team have up their sleeves for their next trick!
