The University of Savoie and the organisers of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) have signed a partnership agreement, making protection of the environment a refounded priority.

Back in 2010, a University of Savoie Mountain Management student conducted a study of the impacts of the Chamonix ultramarathon event, which attracts 50000 spectators and over 6000 runners for the five races over 6 days and requires the help of 2000 volunteers.
The study resulted in the creation of environmental protection and remedy plan, the study continued over the past few years and has now been officially acknowledged by the Ultra-Trail, who signed a convention with Asters (environmental manager of the Haute Savoie Nature Reserves) and the University of Savoie this month.

The Ultra-Trail have been making eco-responsibility a priority since 2003 by establishing concrete actions to minimize the pollution inherent to the race in order to fight against waste, and to incite individuals to adopt responsible attitudes towards the environment.
