Refund for UTMB and TDS runners
Organisers of the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc have confirmed that those runners who were affected by the cancellation of this year's event will be refunded some of their entry fee.
Ultra Trail runners can claim up to 100 euros back, while TDS runners are able to claim 80 euros.
If you fall into either of these categories you should by now have received an email from Catherine Poletti, explaining the procedure. Anyone waiting to claim a refund has until 15th November 2010 to access the ‘Espace Personnel' section on the website www.ultratrailmb.com, where you will be able to complete a claims form. Refunds will only be issued to people who have completed all the paperwork in full and submitted it by this date.
Although the chance to recoup a bit of cash comes as good news, unfortunately the organisers have also confirmed that runners who were not able to complete this year's race will not be automatically entered into next year's. Normal inscription procedures will apply for all, meaning that not everyone is guaranteed another bite at the cherry...
As previously reported the 2010 Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc was halted shortly after the start, due to extremely bad weather. The organisers took the decision to safeguard the safety of the runners by cancelling the race before nightfall. Some runners continued the race the next day from Courmayeur; see our video report for footage of the event.
