Another crevasse fall on the Vallee Blanche

Wednesday around 13:00 saw a 29 year old Russian snowboarder on the Vallee Blanche fall 20m to his death.

The Russian, who had set off with a guide, fell into the crevasse in the passage known as ‘Chapeau a Cornes' just below the Requin Refuge. Four rescuers retrieved the snowboarder, but he was already dead.

Since the beginning of the year, there now has been a total of four deaths by falling into crevasses on the Vallee Blanche.

Upcoming Events

Chamonix hosts a wide range of sporting events throughout the year. The biggest ones include the Mont Blanc Marathon in June and the UTMB trail running race in August. In March, the Unlimited Festival brings ravers to the mountains while Musilac Mont Blanc takes place a month later. At the end of July, the Cosmo Jazz Festival hosts concerts all around the valley.
