The Neverest Girls say goodbye & thank you in style!

Farewell party for Everest Marathon runners

It's been a busy year for The Neverest Girls and all their planning and preparation is about to be put to the test, as they head off in just a few weeks to take part in the world's highest marathon at Everest Base Camp.

The 7 girls - Nikki Barnard, Samantha Brooks, Andrea Mason, Helen Stow, Sofia Hannson, Steph Lightfoot and Alison Shayler - have been training hard throughout the winter and are raring to go and give it their best shot on the gruelling 42km course. Distance is one thing, but altitude is another; the race starts at 5364m at the famous base camp at Mount Everest, reaching it's highest point of 5545m at Kala Patthar. Lack of oxygen in the thin air means that the girls will be running much slower than usual and having to dig a lot deeper to find the energy to complete the race.

The Neverest Girls are undertaking their challenge in support of local charity A Chacun Son Everest; a charity based in Les Praz that gives much needed respite to children and, more recently, to women in recovery from cancer. A week long stay allows them to experience mountain activities, outdoor sports, treatments and workshops with the support of professionals who will offer them all the help they need with their recovery, whilst meeting others in the same situation. The goal of the charity is to help each person achieve their own personal "Everest".

As well as training hard, the girls have been organising some great fundraising parties and this Saturday is the last one before they leave - the theme is The Great Gatsby, so come and see them off in roaring 1920's style! There is no entry fee but all donations are very welcome and there will be a raffle with some great prizes to be won. The party kicks off from 8pm at Les Caves on Rue des Moulins, get your gladrags on and join them for a Charleston!

Don't forget, you can still donate to A Chacun Son Everest via the Paypal link at THENEVERESTGIRLS.COM - the girls are paying for every penny of the trip themselves, so all donations go directly to the charity. The girls would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far, making the current total over 10,000€; their goal is to raise 15,000€ so please click on the link to make your donation!
