Improvement work carried out on Brevent
At the end of each season the Compagnie du Mont Blanc spends considerable time and effort improving the ski areas up and down the valley. Recently it was the turn of Brevent where 4 new Gas-Ex detonation tubes were installed around the Chamois piste at the top of the new Cornu chairlift. Gas-Ex are large tubes that enable avalanches to be triggered remotely. The piste security wish to open up this area to improve the flow of skiers arriving at the top of the lift and the new installations will ensure that snow build up can be safely triggered at regular intervals.
Further down, much consideration has been given to the dangerous “crossroad” area where the Cornu, Charlanon, Blanchots and Vioz pistes all converge. Skiers crisscross this sector (usually at speed as it is quite flat) in order to reach the lifts or the beginning of the Nants piste back down to town. By building the base of the new Cornu lift 200m further down the mountain, just below the Parsa departure point, there is now no need for skiers to traverse the mountain here and instead they will naturally flow together to the base of the lifts.
In Flegere, work of a different nature is being carried out to improve the pistes under the Index chair. Teams are also in the process of removing the pylons that supported the old Index chairlift after it was replaced last year.
