featured in News & reviews Author Sophie Nicholson, Chamonix Editor Updated

Snow has been falling in huge amounts in the Chamonix valley in recent days prompting an earlier than expected start to the ski season of 2012-2103.

Opening day for the whole area had been planned for the 22nd of December but with reports of around 1m of snow up high, the Compagnie du Mont Blanc have made the decision to open two of the valley's ski areas starting this weekend - the 8th/9th of December. From Saturday onwards, the following lifts will operate daily, weather permitting:

Grands Montets:
The first cable-car from Argentière to Lognan, the Bochard gondola, Plan Joran, Marmottons & Tabé chair-lift

Les Houches:
The Prarion gondola, Ecole, Kandahar, Maisonneuve & Voza chair-lifts

Adult day passes at the Grands Montets will cost €33, youth passes €28 and veteran passes €16.50. Family passes and 4 hour passes will also be available.
Adult day passes for Les Houches will cost €23 and youth passes (4-15yrs) €17.

The Grands Montets will be open from 09:00-16:15 and Les Houches from 08:45-16:30.

Will we have a repeat of last year's epic ski season? Let's hope so....
