British Snowboarder Dies in Aiguille du Midi Fall
British Man Caught in Vallee Blanche Storm Dies
A British man suffered a fatal fall off the Aiguille du Midi ridge yesterday whilst trying to make his way back to Aiguille du Midi lift in a snowstorm.
On Saturday two men turned back from their intended descent of the Vallee Blanche as bad weather closed in around them with strong winds and snowfall. At 21:00 one of the men successfully made his way back up the Aiguille du Midi ridge to the lift station, guided by a member of stafff from the Aguille du Midi.
Sadly the second man slipped on the arete and fell down the north face of the Aiguile du Midi, a 1100 metre cliff drop.
The British man's body was recovered on Sunday morning by a PGHM rescue helicopter during a clear weather window.
Conditions on the Aiguille du Midi arete were said to be particularly bad, with a strong snowy wind from the Vallee Banche side and temperatures down to -16C°.
The man has been named as John Lamb from Glasgow - our thoughts go out the man's friends and families.
