BREAKING NEWS – ULTRA TRAIL START POSTPONED
This evenings UTMB start delayed due to storm warnings
Organisers of this year's North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc have warned that they plan to push the start time of the UTMB back from 18:30 this evening to between 23:00 and 24:00.
Storm warnings have been issued for this evening and after last year's cancelled event they do not want to take any chances. They are hoping that the storm will have passed over by this point and that it will be safe for runners to start the race. (I feel partly responsible for foolishly predicting good weather in my previous report.)
The 2010 UTMB was cut short after runners had already set off, due to heavy rain and flooding of some areas. Not all runners got the message straight away though and rescue teams were sent out to bring them back from some of the more remote parts of the course.
The CCC route has also been changed due to the impending bad weather; the new course will avoid the final 3 peaks of Bovine, Catogne and Tete aux Vents making the new distance 93km instead of 98km.
Updates will posted on the news page of the UTMB website or on the UTMB Facebook page. You can also ask at the information posts in the centre of Chamonix.
