Avalanche on the Tete de Chevrette
One Skier Injured
In the early afternoon of Sunday the 15th of April 2013, an off piste skier was injured in an avalanche near Chamonix. The male skier was the only casualty in the slide that was triggered on the Tete de la Chevrette in the Aiguilles Rouges.
The PGHM were alerted to the scene and the man was airlifted to hospital in Sallances with leg injuries.
The avalanche hazard level at the weekend was rated as 'high' (4/5) following a combination of significant snowfall, high winds at altitude and a noticeable increase in temperature across the Alps. The avalanche in Taconnaz last Friday was a strong indication of the instability in the high mountains and the PGHM even made the rare move of releasing an official warning about the dangers ahead of the weekend.
Elsewhere in the Alps, four people were killed in two separate avalanches over the weekend in the Vanoise and Hautes-Alpes.
