Trucks Banned from the Mont Blanc Tunnel Today Due to High Winds

Air pressure in the tunnel ventilation systems is being affected by the strong winds

If you're in Chamonix at the moment you can't have failed to miss the strong Foehn winds that have been tearing around the Valley since late last night.

The effect of this wind on the air pressure in the Mont Blanc tunnel has caused trucks to be temporarily banned from driving through it.

There is a pressure limit that the Security teams at the tunnel monitor and when that gets too high, the ventilation fans don't work correctly so it's not safe to have large vehicles passing through.

*Update 11am* The barometric pressure has now stabilised so all traffic has now got permission to travel through the tunnel.
