The French man, from the Paris region, was climbing the Aiguille de la République with his partner on Saturday 20th June.

During their descent one of the ropes came loose and one of the two climbers fell around twenty metres, landing on a ledge. Help was called at midnight and the PGHM arrived at 1am to transfer the injured man to hospital in Sallanches. Sadly, he died during the night.

The Aiguille de la République is a tall shard of rock that sits at a height of 3305 metres behind the Envers des Aiguilles Refuge.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
