Arc’teryx Alpine Academy 2016

Free events & activities at the Alpine Village in Chamonix

The Arc'teryx Alpine Academy comes back to Chamonix for its fifth edition from 16th to 19th June 2016.

The mountain based clinics and workshops always sell out incredibly quickly (look out for March 2017 registrations if you're interested in joining the event next year) but the good news is that there are still a lot of free events and activities that you can do during the course of the event.

Everything takes place at the base station of the Aiguille du Midi cable car. The opening ceremony takes place on Thursday 16th June from 20:00, after that on Friday, Saturday & Sunday you can try your hand at bouldering, improve your big wall climbing techniques, learn about nutrition, practise your orienteering skills, get your gear fixed by seamstresses, enjoy film nights and get tips on how to build shelters and take better photos.

A bouldering block will be built on site and from 16:00 every day there will be a competition where you can join in and compete for prizes. A climbing wall will also be built for the Big Wall techniques and there will be a daily competition on here too, to "haul the big wall bag" and compete for the chance to win a Petzl goody bag.

If orienteering is your thing, then every day from 15:00 there will be a race to get around 3 control points and get back to the Suunto booth as fast as you can. The winner goes home with a Suunto watch.

For mountain runners a free clinic will start at the place de l'Aiguille du Midi on Saturday 18th from 14:00 - 17:00 with Arc'teryx athlete Stian Hagen. There will be 4 different difficulty routes to choose from.

The film nights are always hugely popular, so get there early to get a good spot and we'd recommend bringing your own drinks and snacks along.
