Winter came...and then it went again

ust a couple of weeks ago we were getting very excited about the prospect of Chamonix's Grands Montets ski area opening early. Since then. the valley has been dogged with warm Foehn winds and temperatures so mild we've dug out the bike again.

There is no question that Grands Montets will remain closed this weekend. Looking up whilst driving through Argentiere the other day proved the point - not a drop of snow left on the Pierre et Ric 'homerun' piste from Lognan back down to the car park.

And with the freeze level rising to over 3000m this week, the snow cannons haven't been switched on either. A new weather front is expected to arrive Sunday, but it doesn't look like it'll be a big dump of snow, but from then on the temperatures are expected to return to 'normal' rather than the unseasonal 14 and 15 degrees we've been having this week.

Compagnie du Mont Blanc is still hopeful about partially opening Grands Montets on the 28th November... this time, we're not holding our breath!
