Two Swiss stranded on the Swiss route, Grand Capucin
Strained Swiss stuck on summit
Two Swiss mountaineers were forced to spend a night 3838 metres on the peak of the Grand Capucin, part of the Mont Blanc Massif.
Swiss mountaineers exhausted after completing the Swiss route
The Swiss duo set off early Sunday morning to complete the Swiss route up the Grand Capucin, however after reaching the summit at 3838 metres they realised they were too exhausted to climb back down.
The climb up the granite tower is 700 metres vertical and is normally completed in a 5 to 7 hours, which proved too much for the two climbers.
Calling the PGHM rescue services they were informed an evening rescue would not be possible and they would have to wait for day-break. Fortunately they were equipped to spend a night outside and it was at 7am that they were picked up by the rescue services.
