Talo is the name of a Lynx released into the wild in May 2013 over the border in Switzerland. He's been tracked since his release and is now believed to have reached the Chamonix Valley.

He was originally released near a tributary of the Rhone river, not far from Geneva and has made his through the Grand Bornard region to the Haute Savoie, a distance of around 80-90km.

Gottlieb Dändliker, a wildlife inspector, has been following the Lynx by radio tracking collar as he passed through villages and along roads often close to the human population and so far without incident.

Foot prints of an unknown animal have been spotted in the high mountain here in April this year (see pictures) so perhaps Talo was here a little earlier than his tracker had realised?

The Eurasian Lynx is the 3rd largest predator in Europe, after the brown bear and the grey wolf and they typically feed on deer, covering a large home range. The species is known to live as far away as Russia and central Asia.

Take a look at the video of his release below.
