Opening Day Accident at the Grands Montets
Young woman seriously injured in Chamonix
After last week's record snowall in the Alps, many ski resorts opened early to welcome enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders keen to make the most of the incredible early season conditions. Unfortunately for one young British snowboarder, the first turns of the winter season 2012-2013 went very badly wrong resulting in serious injury and hospitalisation.
The young woman was reported to have been riding in the Pierre a Ric sector of the Grands Montets when the accident occurred at 16:00. She was found unconscious and in cardiao-respiratory arrest on the piste after falling head first into a hole. She was then evacutated by helicopter to hospical in Annecy.
