Mont Blanc Triathlon at Lake Passy this weekend

More accustomed to the splashing and paddling of over-heated sunbathers, Lac de Passy will be invaded by more than 500 wet-suited tri-athletes this weekend.

The popular leisure spot is playing host to the 7th Mont Blanc Triathlon, an international event that attracts athletes from far and wide. The stages of the race include a 1500m swim around the lake, a 40km cycle race and a 10km run. There is also a half-distance “sprint” version and two shorter courses for children and teens.

As ever, all proceeds from the event are going to charity with this year's good cause being malaria treatment in Senegal.

Over 500 tri-athletes have already signed up for the event and online registration is open until midnight tonight. Failing that, you can register on the day (medical certificate must be provided). Or, you can just take along your usual picnic blanket and watch from your favourite sunbathing spot...

The races take place morning and afternoon on Sunday 29th August.
