Mont Blanc is shrinking and moving away from Chamonix!

featured in News & Reviews Author Caroline Face, Updated

Mont Blanc is now 4810,45m high - according to official figures released today. Following the expedition that we reported on in September to take accurate measurements from the summit of Mont Blanc, the results are now in and it seems our beloved mountain is shrinking!

In relation to the last measurements recorded two years ago, Mont Blanc has lost 45cm in height, but what we can't quite get our head round is the fact that it is moving horizontally too!

It seems Mont Blanc is slowly making its way towards Italy, with the summit being measured at being 26 metres closer to Italy than two years ago. So technically, anyone planning a Mont Blanc summit attempt from France will find themselves having to walk just that little bit further to reach their aim.

Apparently, there's no need to worry that Mont Blanc will be captured by the Italians - the summit's still in France and to be more precise, in the commune of St Gervais (to be honest, we didn't knew it wasn't even in the commune of Chamonix!).
