Lognan Lift Watch Part 3

More details on the plans for Plan Joran & Lognan cable car announced

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

More details have been released today by the Compagnie du Mont Blanc about the works to be undertaken at Grands Montets.

Not only is the Plan Joran chair lift being replaced by a gondola (telecabine) that will take 10 people per cabin, but the two cabins of the Lognan cable-car will also be replaced. Plus.. the mid-station at Lognan (the main Grands Montets lift station) will also be getting a much needed makeover, with state of the art displays and information.

The new base station of the Plan Joran lift is looking pretty snazzy too. It evens looks like they're going to build a link from the main cable car lift station to the new gondola (see pic).

The new Plan Joran telecabines will closely resemble the ones at Brevent Plan Praz, and will carry a maximum of 3200 people per hour, travelling at 6 metres per second. There will be 84 cabins carrying up to 10 people each, and the estimated trip time is 6 mins 52 seconds.

It will depart from 1242 metres elevation (at the site of the bottom of the old chair lift) taking you up to 2138m (627m lower than the top of the Bochard gondola and higher than the old chair).

Much more excavation has been going on in the last few days, and it's clear to see why now!
