Chamonix Announce Half Billion Ski Area Investment

The Chamonix lift company have announced a massive investment plan in the Chamonix ski area after their last proposal was turned down by the Chamonix town council.

Back in January the Compagnie du Mont Blanc who manage the lifts in the Chamonix valley, announced they would scrap the existing contract with the Chamonix town hall to make way for a new contract and new investments.
Now ten months on a new contract could now be on its way to being signed after the mayor of Chamonix, Eric Fournier, was said to have been pleased with new proposal from the CMB.

The new forty year € 477 million plan allows for a huge investment over the next six years and to plan for future developments in the long term.

Three telecabins, two chairlifts and two new beginner areas in the next 6 years

The CMB proposal features the construction of three new gondolas, two chairlifts and two beginner areas:

  • 2014: Installation of a new switchable gondola for 10 people in each cabin at Plan joran (Grands Montets ski area)
  • 2014: Creation of a beginners area at 2000m altitude at Planpraz (Brévent-Flégère ski area)
  • 2016: Installation of a new switchable chairlift at La Parsa (Brevent-Flegère ski area)
  • 2016: Argentiere beginner ski area (Grands Montets ski area)
  • 2017: Installation of a new gondola at Charamillon (Tour ski area)
  • 2019: Tabé / Marmottons Chairlift (Grands Montets ski area)
  • 2019: Flégère improved access (Brevent-Flegère ski area)

The new contract could be signed on the 4th of December when the town council meet with the CMB.
