Local women in 100km Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge

Featured in News & Reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

The inaugural French Oxfam Trailwalker is being supported by local women; Trudi Simmons, Stephanie Durand, Julie Sandona and Jane Williams. The 50/50 Anglo/French team (‘Les Etoiles du Mont Blanc') is preparing to walk 100km in under 30hrs, walking through the night, to raise a minimum of €1500 for Oxfam.

Les Houches residents Trudi, Stephanie and Julie are joined by St Gervais-ite Jane in their attempt to top the donations board, and complete the course in under 25 hours.

Taking place at the Parc du Morvan in Bourgogne on 12 and 13th June 2010 this is the first Oxfam Trailwalker event to take place in France. Oxfam started the event 25 years ago in Hong Kong, and it is becoming a global phenomenon with nine events in eight different countries including Australia, NZ, Japan, Ireland, UK and Canada.

The money raised by the local team will be used by Oxfam to provide humanitarian aid including clean water, sanitation, food assistance and work programmes in countries such as Haiti, Chile, Afganistan, Zimbabwe and Gaza.

To help achieve their €1500 minimum the team are organising a fund raising evening at the Salle Olca in Les Houches on Saturday 28 May; with 3 course dinner including wine, music and raffle draws throughout the night. Why not support the team, and have a great night out, by attending the event. Alternatively the team are collecting prizes for the raffle and taking donations via the Oxfam donation website.

Perhaps, as sporting events go in Chamonix, this isn't particularly extreme but surely the blisters and aching legs are worth a little of your money?

Donations can be made to http://oxfamtrailwalker.aiderdonner.com/lesetoilesdumontblanc. For raffle prize donations and tickets for the fundraising event please phone Jane Williams 06 14 61 58 89. Tickets are €15 per adult, €10 per child.
