Les Houches starts the slow legal process of change

Simultaneous meetings in Les Houches and St Gervais voted unanimously to create a SIVU (syndicat intercommunal a vocation unique) to regroup the eight separate ski concessions in the Les Houches ski area.

Now this does NOT mean there will be just one company operating the lifts, the SIVU refers, effectively, to the owners of the terrain and installations. The idea is that now there is one company there is one single voice, much better for negotiating and sorting out how the ski area is run in the future.

This fact of having eight concessionaires has always been a problem, so both St Gervais and Les Houches mairies are hoping this is a step forward. The SIVU itself is made up of four delegates from Les Houches and four from St Gervais. It was agreed that mayor of Les Houches, Patrick Dole, would preside over the SIVU and it will, therefore, be based in Les Houches.

The SIVU was keen to stress that this new set up wouldn't mean investments into the domain would not be financed by supplemental taxes on St Gervais residents, but it is hoped there may be movement forward on the Crozat chair replacement and links to St Gervais projects.

Patrick Dole also stressed that the priority was for the SIVU to find and improve ways of working with Compagnie du Mont Blanc as well.
