La Maison de Barberine opens for the summer

featured in News & Reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

The Vallorcine area of the Chamonix valley is rich in pastoral history and La Maison de Barberine captures the past in its exhibition of traditional Alpine life.

The early 18th century farmhouse has been lovingly restored and features artefacts relating to country life and farming in this high altitude region. Walking from room to room, you can discover furniture, farming tools and household items from days gone by, as well as temporary exhibitions on different themes relating to local heritage.

The house has just been donated €500 by the Credit Agricole bank to help continue their restoration work.

La Maison de Barberine is open to the public throughout July and August from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Entry costs €2.50 and the closest train station is Vallorcine (train travel free with a Carte d'Hôte guest card). Private viewings can be arranged year round on request +33 (0) 450 54 60 34.
