Compagnie du Mont Blanc takes over Les Houches ski area
End of era for Les Houches ski company saga
It has been a long time coming but finally the Chamonix ski lift company, the Compagnie du Mont Blanc, will take ownership of Les Houches ski area.
Les Houches has had it's fair share of news coverage over the years as problems between the two families who operated the ski area have been recurrent, climaxing in the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass that did not cover Les Houches.
Nevertheless the future looks bright - after a long and complicated procedure for the ownership of Les Houches ski area, it has been announced that the Compagnie du Mont Blanc (CMB) will step in as the majority share owner, at a cost of 4 million Euros on the 25th of October.
The current company, Les Houches - Saint Gervais (LHSG) found the only way forward was to partner with the CMB. As coming up with the 22 million Euros right-to-exploit-the-ski-area fee proved too much for the communal company. The CMB will own 73% of the company whilst the remaining 27% is made up of funds rom the municipalities of Les Houches, Saint Gervais and the SEM Chamonix Development.
It's all very complicated, but what this means is that the future of Les Houches ski area is in safe hands and skiing in Les Houches will be still be available on the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass.
