Chamonix shook by earthquake

featured in News & reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

Chamonix was rocked yesterday afternoon by an earthquake. What do you mean, you didn't notice? OK, more like nudged by a small tremor...

The epicentre of the quake was in Italy, about 30km west of Turin. It measured 4.5 on the Richter scale and the knock-on effect could apparently be felt here in Chamonix and perhaps as far away as Annecy or Annemasse.

Chamonix has been shaken twice in recent years by earthquakes, once in September 2005 and again in December 2010. Both registered low on the Richter scale and neither caused any damage.
