Earthquake hits Vallorcine

This morning Vallorcine was shaken, well nudged, by a small earthquake!

Measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale the tremor struck at 7.41 this morning, with the epicentre at the Pic de Loriaz. Survivors of the natural phenomenon confirm that it could be felt as far away as Chamonix centre.

It is thought to have been a long-delayed aftershock of the 4.6 earthquake that shook the village on 8th September 2005, causing slight damage and a number of landslides.

There have been a couple of minor tremors since then, both in 2008 measuring 2.6 and 2.8.

No one was injured in this morning's little tremble and there was no damage caused, just a few people wondering why they had woken up unexpectedly.
