Chamonix Guide Dies in Avalanche

Tragedy for a Chamonix guide caught in an avalanche in Switzerland.

In the area of Ayer near Zinal in Switzerland Jean-Noel Marty set off with five ski-tourers towards the Val d'Anniviers from the Col d'Arpettes. According the police reports an avalanche was triggered and engulfed the guide. His clients were quick off the mark and within 15 minutes the guide was pulled out of the avalanche but he was seriously injured.

The injured guide was helicoptered off the mountain by the Air Glacier Company and taken to the Sion hospital where he later died.

This news has caused considerable upset throughout the Valley of Mont Blanc as he was well known for his work for the Mountain Odyssey Agency and also his hard work teaching Mountain Skills in Chamonix.
